Lissy Elle

Lissy Elle

Lissy was inspired by a forest which she lived near. She is a surreal photographer and so creates impossible scenarios in her head and explores various ways which she can make them real, she jots her ideas down in a journal and this is where the creativity begins. She only started to consider photography in an art form when she was 13 years of age, and said she saved up money to buy herself cameras. It became her life; she describes photography as ’The reason to get up in the morning and wash your hair’. It is clear through here work how passionate about it.

I have chosen Lissy as she is a surreal photographer, who explores nature and photographs her images in organic scenes .i.e. Forests, woods etc. For my exam piece I have chosen the title tea for two and I wanted to explore a surreal and paranormal world of tea parties similar to the Alice in wonderland tea parties as they were very quirky and crazy. I thought Lissy would be the perfect artist to explore as her work is very extraordinary and causes the audience, to expand their creative vision. I also love the style that she works; all her photographs are very different and tell a story. Her photographs have a vintage hint to them, with the use of china tea cups and the models are wearing pretty white styles frocks. She has previously photographed in three main styles which are fine art, life style and fashion and beauty. In all of these styles she has demonstrated a creative flare and abnormalities in her work. Her work is truly extraordinary.

Artist Analysis

This image creates a magical world, the model in the images appears on first sight as being a normal young girl sat in the forest having a party, however as we starts to study the image further we start to recognize the tea cups, we realise that she is a miniature person, the model in comparison to the side of the trees supports the idea of the young girl being a smaller size. Beside her are two different sized tea cups, one which appear to be the appropriate size in comparison to the model and another which appears to be giant compared to the model, this creates an interesting juxtapose. The tea cup in the background then appears to be giant, from a distance the tea cup is of a similar size to the  larger tea cup located next to the model, so if the model decided to go toward the tea cup in the distance it would being to englarge.

The main focus of this image is the model who is dressed in a pretty pink dress. Pink symbolising a nurturing love, this could also reflect the models personalities though the image. She appears to be, an innocent girl, who is nurturing nature in this case the forest. She is a wearing a crown on her head suggesting that she is of a young girl, possibly in her mid teen right through to her late teens. The image contains leading lines, in the sense that the model is looking in a certain direction and as an audience our eyes also wonder in the same direction which she is looking to, she is looking down in the distance, where the giant tea cup is located.

Response ideas

For my response to Lissy Elle I am planning on going into Arnold Park which has beautiful nature features, there is a section where there are caged birds and however the scene is very beautiful, this could create some beautiful abstract photographs. I also have the idea of going to the forest and dressing my model in pretty frocks and asking them to wonder in the forest and place miniature china tea cups in the forest. I thought it would be an interesting idea to tie varies patterned tea cups hanging from the trees using string. I could possibly edit my images on Photoshop in order to achieve paranormal scenes in my work.

My Response

For my response for Lissy Elle I explored the link between nature and tea parties. I went into the woods in bestwood and stared of by photographing the woods various logs and trees which appeared to be beautiful. I thought the simplicity of photographing nature itself would show how I developed my idea. I then started to place tea cups and around the these scenes in order to experiment and link my topic tea for two into my work. The contrast of the the beautiful man made tea cups and the beauty of nature in the woods was really effective.Firsty I placed the tea cups on the logs thinking about the composition as I did so, by arranging them order of size but also the creating a symetry in te arrangement, to demostrating a relationship through my arrangment of objects. I then went on to explore hanging the tea cups from a beautiful tree which had small white flowers which fell delicately. I observed that haning the tea cups from the tree created a supernatural beautiful scene, which was the effect I was trying to acheive.

Over all I was please with my outcome, if I was to go back and reshoot this shoot I would, include a model, Lissy Elle generaly includes a model whois dress up in a vintage gown. I would also exlpore creating more supernatural and magical scene by using objects such as string and possibly attaching all my objects togther and then placing them in different places in the woods.I will also explore different effects on photoshop similiar to this photographer.

Photoshop

After taking photographs I wanted to experiment with Photoshop in order to create a surreal world in the style of Lissy Elle. I want to create an impossible world. For my first images I added I layer my images on top of each other and changed the size and I also removed the background and placed them in different areas.
For this image I placed two images on top of each other and then I used the Rubber on Photoshop in order to rub out the back ground. I then changed the size of my image in order for my tea cups to be in proportion with the background. However I photographed the tea cups indoors which consisted of an artificial light causing the image to appear to have yellow under tone. Whereas the image of the woods which was photographed using a natural light. When I went on to edit my image on Photoshop the images did not blend as well I had hoped.

I then went on to try experiment with editing two images which were photographed in the same place and editing them to form one. In this image I tried to create a floating tea cup by cutting out a tea cup which I had photographed previously. I then created a scene which formed a tea pot pouring tea into a floating tea cup. I was happier with these images in comparison to the previous image as the lighting blended in a lot more. Place and possible edit them and merge the together
