Statement of Intent
For my exam piece I have chosen
the title 'Tea for two', with this I wanted to explore the love story between
two people and how they go into a magical world when their together, and
perhaps very distant from reality. Instead of taking photographs of tea I
wanted to discover a deeper meaning, i.e. relationships. Through my work I
wanted to explore a supernatural world, by experimenting with floating tea cups
and also miniature objects. My project will involve a lot of Photoshop work in
order to achieve these surreal effects. I wanted to also change the size of my
models as well as working with miniature objects. For one of my final pieces I
want to produce two giant tea cups, and then I wanted to have to have my models
climbing into the tea cups and their partner helping them climb into the cup,
representing a beautiful relationship. I also had the idea of experimenting
with having one person normal sized and the other small, and with both of them
having a tea date, through this I wanted to demonstrate that their love is
still strong despite the outrageous size difference.
White Rabbit
For my shoot I went to White Rabbit, a traditional tea shop in Nottingham because they have vintage tea cups and beautiful decorations. They have traditional menus and I thought it would be appropriate for my to take photographs of the people having tea and the decorations in order to inspire me for my work. In my photograph
I wanted to include a traditional tea party and the story behind the people
having tea. I wanted to place these beautiful delicate tea cups into the woods,
placing them into nature. For my shoot I photographed people enjoying tea and each
other’s company. I also composed images of my friends enjoying tea, cakes and
snacks which we ordered. I tried to vary my angle, positioning and shooting
from a bird’s eye view to capture the beautiful patterns on the table clothes.
